Designing AI for Modern Healthcare Workflows

Overview

Avicenna, a med-tech solution designed to bridge the gap between patient care and administrative compliance. The platform empowers physicians to record and transcribe patient sessions in real-time, leveraging AI to automate the burdensome task of filing insurance claims.

I led the end-to-end design strategy—from foundational branding and logo development to a scalable, cross-platform design system for desktop and mobile.

Challenge

toggle
  • Physicians are often overwhelmed by administrative "paperwork." The challenge was to design a recording interface that felt invisible during a session while remaining highly functional afterward.
  • Navigating the rigid constraints of HIPAA compliance required a meticulous approach to data privacy. I had to ensure that the UX never compromised sensitive patient information while still providing the doctor with actionable transcriptions.
  • Maintaining the density of medical data across a mobile-first responsive framework without losing the utility of the dashboard's analytical insights.

Solution

toggle
  • I mapped out the doctor’s journey from "entry to export," focusing on a "One-Tap" recording start to minimize distractions during patient consultations.
  • Designed a high-density dashboard that prioritizes "Time Saved" and "Session Completion" metrics, giving doctors a clear view of their daily efficiency at a glance.
  • I implemented a "Zero-Storage" philosophy for sensitive identifiers within the UI, ensuring the platform acted as a conduit for transcription rather than a high-risk data repository.
  • Developed a cohesive visual language that scales from detailed desktop analytics to simplified mobile recording controls, ensuring a seamless handoff between devices.

Outcome

toggle
  • Delivered a comprehensive, development-ready design system that moved the product from concept to a high-fidelity, functional prototype.
  • The final designs successfully automated the transcription-to-claim pipeline, significantly reducing the manual documentation time per patient.
  • Established a robust brand and UI framework that allows the product to evolve from a transcription tool into a full-scale medical suite.
